Hamsa Jewelry
I will be the first to admit it - I have a slight obsession with this adorable delicate jewelry! It has become quite a popular trend with celebrities in Hollywood, however, it is more than a trend for most. The Hamsa is an amulet, meaning an object that protects a person from harm. It is believed to originate in ancient practices associated with the Sabaeans and Nabataeans. What that means exactly-I'm not sure!
Hamsa can also be traced back to Jewish culture, where it was sometimes call it the Hand of Miriam. As a Catholic girl, I had never seen the Hamsa until I traveled to Greece with my family in 2005 and saw Hamsa jewelry everywhere! There are hundreds, probably thousands of different colored bracelets and different style Hamsa necklaces out there.
(Like silly bands, but BETTER!)
I find Hamsa jewelry to be so neat because it is known to ward off the evil eye. It is a sort of good luck charm that I enjoy wearing.
